When a newlywed Japanese couple goes on a honeymoon

When a newlywed Japanese couple goes on a honeymoon

Hi Everyone,

I spoke to an ADDICTION manager today.

She shared information about new eyeshadows coming in January 2025.

She mentioned that both 101(left) and 102 are expected to be very popular.

Please take a look—they are ¥8,184 each.

I went to Starbucks again today.

It’s a great space where I can concentrate on work.

Between tasks, I usually read essays, blogs, or novels.

I’d like to share an interesting blog I read today:

The story is set in a Starbucks in America.

There was a newlywed Japanese couple on their honeymoon.

The wife ordered coffee for her husband, as she seemed more confident speaking English than he was.

She ordered a Caramel Macchiato in English.

The Starbucks employee responded in Japanese:

"キャラメルマキアートのトールですね。アイスですかホットですか"

This translates to, "A tall Caramel Macchiato, right? Would you like it iced or hot?"

It turns out that the Starbucks employee could speak Japanese and recognized that the couple was Japanese.

However, despite the employee speaking Japanese, the wife continued her order in English. The employee, in turn, continued in Japanese.

This kind of situation isn’t unusual.

The wife thought she was supposed to speak English in the U.S., and it didn’t occur to her to switch to Japanese.

It’s a funny and it could just as easily happen in Japan.

This is a humorous video but also quite thought-provoking.

By the way, have you heard of the term "Narita Divorce"?

"Narita" refers to Narita Airport, and this term describes a divorce that happens shortly after marriage, often right after a honeymoon.

The idea is this:

A couple gets married and goes on a honeymoon. The wife realizes her husband is unreliable—perhaps she’s better at speaking English or managing travel logistics.

She starts to regret getting married...

It’s half a joke, but there might be some truth to it!

Thank you for reading!

Toshiya
