Hakuhodo J9000 series and why Japanese go to English conversation schools

Hi Everyone,

I had a chat with a Hakuhodo manager the other day.

I asked what popular brushes are now. She said, “The J9000 series, including J9001 and J9002, are popular right now.” They are made with goat hair.

Please take a look.

=======================

I was reading a Haruki Murakami essay when I was a student.

He is a novelist who can write and speak English. He was talking about his friend who was going to an English conversation school.

He asked his friend, “Why do you want to speak English?”

She replied, “It would be embarrassing if I wasn't able to speak English when asked for directions by a foreigner who got lost.”

Murakami thought, “How many times will she be asked for directions by a foreigner? The probability is very slim!”

I was sitting at a cafe last night. It was crowded, and I sat close to two ladies.

Since we were sitting close, I overheard a lot. They seemed to be high school friends, and they began talking about their kids.

One of them had a child going to kindergarten. She was telling her friend that there are several kids whose parents are not Japanese.

One has a Chinese mother, another has an Uzbek mother, and another has a French father.

None of them speak Japanese, so she was saying that it is difficult to communicate.
But she wants to talk with them and have a cup of coffee, etc.

This was in a suburb of Tokyo, not like the center of Tokyo. I was surprised that Japan is becoming more diverse even outside of Tokyo.

After I left cafe, I remembered the Murakami essay.

Maybe now, the probability of being asked for directions in English is pretty high.

Thank you for reading!
Toshiya
